Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 11th September 2020

Wow, what a great first week we had last week. I am so impressed with the little elephants already! Our continued aim this week is to settle back into school through creating a calming, positive and safe environment for every child. We know coming into a new class can sometimes be a little bit scary but rest assured the Year 1 team are exceptionally friendly and have lots of exciting activities up their sleeves!

This week our main focus continues to be ensuring the positive wellbeing during the return to school process.

If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to send me a message via Studybugs.

See you Monday!

PSHE and Wellbeing

We will be continuing this week with lots of talking and communication games. This will encourage the children to share any worries or concerns about being back at school and the slightly different systems in place.

Discovery Learning

This week we will be having discovery learning time throughout most of our days. This will allow time for us to familiarise ourselves with our new classroom environment, get to know our teacher and teaching assistants a little better and to start of the year with lots of fun and laughter!

(Discovery time includes activities based on: construction, creativity, imagination, recapping prior learning, sensory opportunities)

We will be full embracing our Power Maths scheme this week. Our first unit is Numbers to 10. We will be engaging with learning practically this week, we will be sorting objects and recognising numbers and amounts in different practical, visual and concrete forms.

We will be starting our PE unit this week, but will only doing outdoor PE due to COVID rules. Our first unit will focus on developing our football l skills and how we use different parts of the body to control equipment during these games. We will be hosting team games to put our newly learnt skills into practise this week.

This week in Phonics we will be starting the Year 1 sounds. This week will be focussing on the 'black cat twins' of ff, ss and ll. We will be engaging in lots of visual and sensory activities to promote recognition of the graphemes and using our sounding and blending skills to read words including these graphemes (example: class, ball, huff).
