Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 4th September 2020

Welcome Back!

Hello and welcome to Elephant Class! We are so pleased to welcome you back into school as Elephants this year. Our aim is to settle back into school through creating a calming, positive and safe environment for every child. We know coming into a new class can sometimes be a little bit scary but rest assured the Year 1 team are exceptionally friendly and have lots of exciting activities up their sleeves!

This week our main focus is ensuring the positive wellbeing during the return to school process.

If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to send me a message via Studybugs.

See you Monday!

PSHE and Wellbeing

We will  be doing lots of talking and communication games. This will encourage the children to share any worries or concerns about being back at school and the slightly different systems in place.

Discovery Learning

This week we will be having discovery learning time throughout most of our days. This will allow time for us to familiarise ourselves with our new classroom environment, get to know our teacher and teaching assistants a little better and to start of the year with lots of fun and laughter!

(Discovery time includes activities based on: construction, creativity, imagination, recapping prior learning, sensory opportunities)

We will be kickstarting our Power Maths scheme this week. Our first unit is Numbers to 10. We will be engaging with learning practically this week, we will be sorting objects and recognising numbers and amounts in different visual and concrete forms.

We will be starting our PE unit this week, but will only doing outdoor PE due to COVID rules. Our first unit will focus on developing our football and netball skills and how we use different parts of the body to control equipment during these games.

We will be starting our phonics this week by recapping the sounds that we learnt last year in Hippo Class.
