Our Amazing School

Wow! What another very busy and successful school year we have had and last Friday was a shining example of the day in the life of our wonderful school. It started at about 6.30am with parents and staff together setting up for sports day! Indeed it was a fabulous morning enjoyed by everyone. Well done to all the children but particularly those in Glassenbury and Scotney who won the KS1 and KS2 sports cup respectfully. Thank you to Mrs Mileham for organising the event, which as ever ran very smoothly. Thank you to the PTFA for providing refreshments and of course to you the parents, families and friends for all your support.

Following a picnic lunch, the school then opened its' classroom doors and parents were warmly invited to experience an afternoon in the life of Goudhurst & Kilndown pupil. There was a real buzz throughout the school and lots of parents commented on how it had been a wonderful day, just perfect!

I am sure you will also share our delight with the SATS results achieved by the year 6 pupils this year. 87% achieved the expected level in Reading, 87% in Writing and 90% in Maths.  Our provisional combined figure for Reading, Writing and Maths is 83% against the national figure of 64%, which is FANTASTIC!

87% of our Early Years Children achieved a “Good level of Development” which is significantly higher than last year’s national figure of 71%.

Our KS1 children have also done extremely well. 80% achieved the expected level in Reading, Writing and Maths.

Everyone has worked very hard to achieve these results, so well done to you all and I know that you too will join me in thanking the staff for their continued hard work and dedication. Today we celebrated Bastille Day as part of our teaching and learning of French. The children dressed in red, white and blue and enjoyed a variety of french activities this morning. This afternoon all the classes took to the playground for an afternoon of fun and a picnic with a french flavour! Thank you to the PTFA for providing the entertainment and food. Tonight we are looking forward to the KS2 Production of 'Ye Ha' which if the dress rehearsal yesterday is anything to go by, I know you are not going to be disappointed.

Tomorrow we have our final celebration assembly in St. Mary's Church at 9.15am - come if you can.

As we draw closer to the end of a very full year I would like to wish the children who are leaving every success at their new schools.  They have all grown, not only in stature but also in confidence and ability and have become young people that we can all be very proud of.  I would also like to thank their parents for their continual support during their child's time with us.
 
On behalf of all of governors and parents I would like to thank our wonderful staff.  As usual they have all worked incredibly hard throughout the year.  For some who are leaving us I would wish them every success in the future. 
 
On behalf of the staff I would like to thank all of the parents who have supported the school throughout the year, our amazing PTFA members who have raised so much money for the school, our volunteers who have listened to children read, helped transport children to sporting activities, helped at forest school and helped at after school clubs.  The staff and I all realise we are incredibly lucky to have your support and would like to thank you all.
 
And finally although we have the final week of school left, I would like to wish everyone a pleasant, relaxing and safe summer holiday along with the fervent hope that the sun continues to shine!! I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday 4th September.
