Friday 27 September 2024 Learning through the Generations in Science We were honoured to have two of our wonderful grandparents visit our school this week and share a lifetime of wisdom and learning with our class, as part of our topic about human lifecycles. Barry and Paul have led hugely interesting lives full of public service, both being recognised by the Queen for their commitment.

Wednesday 11 September 2024 Netball Fun! We had fantastic fun in the sun during our first netball lesson, practising how to catch a ball whilst moving.

Thursday 11 July 2024 Bubble Fun We are grateful to the PTFA for organising a whole school event, including bubble wands and doughnuts! A wonderful afternoon in the sun!

Friday 5 July 2024 Fun on the Farm! Year 4 and 5 went on a joint trip to Brogdale Farm this week, enjoying the wonderful summer sunshine. Cherries were eaten, pollinators studied and the children learned all about a working fruit farm. Thank you to everyone for their brilliant behaviour!

Friday 14 June 2024 Digital Collaging Skills Year 5 explored the digital collages of artists such as David Hockney, looking at how his designs have influenced the everyday picture collages we now use digitally. We then used our natural environment to work outdoors to produce our own photographs and then translate them into a digital collage to try and capture natural movement. The children were great at creating and naming their work!

Friday 26 April 2024 Dodgeball Competition! Year 5 enjoyed their dodgeball taster session with Premier sports. To say the teams were a little competitive is an understatement! But all of the children had a lot of fun.

Wednesday 24 April 2024 Batting and Bowling Fun! Zebras enjoyed a special training session to start their cricket topic, with a senior coach from Benenden Girls school. The session was full of fun tips and tricks to help us get started with our bowling and batting. Thank you so much to the teaching team at Benenden Girls once again for their support.

Thursday 28 March 2024 Melting Clay Dali Clocks! As part of our art curriculum, we have built on our prior learning on Salvador Dali and created a clay piece inspired by his painting, The Persistence of Memory. The children worked hard to join different pieces of clay using slip, developing techniques they had used previously. They also used props to create the ripple effect. Painting the clocks with acrylic paint, showed how they could use this type of material to create their design.

Thursday 28 March 2024 Shakespeare 2024: A Twelfth Night Triumph! Year 5 at Goudhurst school performed their Shakespeare play, Twelfth Night, at Benenden Girls School on Tuesday evening.

Friday 1 March 2024 Liquid Discovery! Year 5 continued their journey investigating solids, liquids and gases, this week exploring the viscosity of different liquids. We measured very carefully and found pouring syrup is very tricky as it is very viscous!

Friday 1 March 2024 Battle of the Clauses Vikings took over our English lessons this week, as well as our learning on Wednesday, with a 'Battle of the Clauses'. We raced to see who could create the most impressive sentences from a randomly selected list of words!

Wednesday 28 February 2024 Viking Day (zebras) Today we immersed ourselves in the history of the vikings.

Thursday 22 February 2024 Exploring Oobleck! Oobleck (a mix of cornstarch and water) was great fun to make! We experimented with how many stirs it took to make. We then observed how it behaves like a solid or a liquid depending on how much pressure is applied. One of our favourite science investigations!

Thursday 8 February 2024 Jumping Gymnastics! We have loved completing our gymnastics module in PE, practising different balances and working as part of a team! Well done Y5!

Friday 19 January 2024 Shake it up! Year 5 enjoyed exploring the difference between solids and liquids by making butter from cream. They discovered that the double cream made butter more easily than the single cream and talked about why this might be the case.

Friday 19 January 2024 Disco with Crumbles! This term Zebras class are working with Crumbles to program instructions to motors, LEDs and buzzers, using a Chromebook. This week the motor was powering a stickperson to dance (move left or right) with a flashing LED, to create a disco effect! Scan our QR code to listen to year 5 explain more!

Friday 5 January 2024 First week of January 2024 We have had a great first week back, doing gymnastics and large apparatus in PE and tasting Spanish oranges! In maths, we continued learning about fractions, using pizza shapes to help us learn. We learned about William Morris patterns in art and started designing our own tile. In computing we put together a crumble (not fruit based) and started to program. Finally, we started our new English topic all about a journey story. To use fractions, we have had an 11/10 week!!

Thursday 16 November 2023 Cakes make books! We love reading in Zebras and we decided it was time to restock our library with some amazing new books! Thank you to all our lovely parents who have bought or provided cakes for our bake sales, as we have used profits from these to buy the new books. Happy reading Zebras!

Thursday 2 November 2023 Handball in the Hall! Handball is a ball game where you use your hands! We had fun today playing games in the hall, as it was wet outside. We practised dribbling skills, and running whilst passing and dribbling!

Thursday 19 October 2023 Owl-tastic! Today, we had some special visitors, who brought in some owls to demonstrate how fantastic these creatures can be. We got to see the owls fly over our heads and if we wanted to we could have our picture taken too!

Friday 6 October 2023 Rocket Poppers! Yesterday, we did an investigation using rocket poppers to create a fair test. We were testing how many seconds it took to launch, varying the size of fizzy vitamin c tablet and amount of water. The quickest was the rocket with the most water! Thursday 5 October 2023 National Poetry Day We studied 'We Refugees' on National Poetry Day, to tie into the theme given for this year of Refuge. We reflected on how the poem ties in with our topic on journeys for this term and how the poem made us feel.
