Hapa Zome Bunting & Pancakes with a Hedgerow Twist
This week the Orange Tips learnt the art of Hapa Zome (Japanese for leaf dye) in order to create some bunting for our very smart new kitchen roof made by Mr Russell and his sons. It took concentration, resilience and control and resulted in a good dose of glee!! It also promoted a lot of interest in the shapes and names of the trees and plants around Broad Oak Wood as the children hunted for the 'BEST' Hapa Zome leaf.
Meanwhile, Brimstones got to mix up their own pancake ingredients. Before watching them being cooked over the campfire and then drizzling them in Rosehip's homemade Rosehip Syrup packed with Vitamin C....so good many had to lick the bowl clean and almost everybody came back for seconds - we were all rather proud of ourselves for showing COURAGE and trying a new food!!!
3 examples of CURIOSITY - 1) Trying new things: Hapa Zome & Rosehip Syrup; 2) Furthering our own learning: finding out the names of the trees that the leaves were using for Hapa Zome came from; 3) Observation: watching the way the centipedes and woodlice legs moved
2 examples of COMMITMENT - 1) Not giving up on the Hapa Zome of the Sweet Chestnut leaf even though it was taking a long time. 2) Carrying the orange medical bag...it's really big when you're a little Elephant!
COURAGE - One brave butterfly owning up to their mistake. Your honesty not only helped you learn but it also helped others learn and it's really brave to admit you've made a mistake! Well done.
COMPASSION - Lots and lots of butterflies helping each other with doing up zips, opening packets at lunch, handing each other their belongings.
Take a look at this week's gallery for a sneak peek of what went on.
