Goudhurst & Kilndown Church of England Primary School

Dragonflies, Daisies & Dog Roses

The wait between Year 1 & Year 2s Forest School sessions is the longest in their entire journey through our school. It is fair to say that Holly & Chestnut Group were bubbling with excitement as they boarded the minibus.
The grasses in the meadow were almost as tall as their heads and they were excited to be back.
We read a lovely poem about birds' nests (attached below) and identified 15 birds within its verses. The children then played the game 'Hungry Chicks' where they had to work together in small teams to find woolly caterpillars hidden around the Wonderful Wood. There were some superb examples of collaboration and problem solving.

The groups are very keen to ID lots of the plants and animals and we have had lots of super independent research and trails of enquiry.

After lunch, we went down to the pond to watch the mummy coot and her chicks (coots are not ducks even though they spend a lot of their time on the water). We also saw dragonflies and damselflies - the children wondered how you could tell the difference? If you want to know ask one of the Kudus or look at the Nature Diary in the school foyer.

Take a look at this week's videos to get a snapshot of our sessions....
