Conquering Conkers!

Beech Group learnt two lessons early on Wednesday morning. What the Beaufort scale is & to deal with disappointment! I am pleased to say that they decided to deal with the news that they would not be able to go to the woods due to the meteorologists’ forecast of high winds with maturity and a refreshingly positive outlook

Having taken in the forecast and observed the movement of the trees we set off to the huge horse chestnut at the triangle where not only did we find lots of beautiful shiny conkers but also lots of fascinating fungi.

Stuffed pockets and a brimming bucket were taken back to school and the children and the adults suggested various ways the children might like to use these glossy orbs. We demonstrated weaving with cocktail sticks & wool, Conker characters with natural materials and finally we introduced to the ‘perilous’ playground game of conkers….Wren was taking no prisoners!

The day flew by & Beech group agreed that this had a lot to do with their attitude. They had chosen to embraces the potential of the day with a positive mindset and THEY had made it sooo much fun. They certainly deserved their luxury hot chocolate!

Oak group were able to visit the woods so donned their waterproofs as the forecast was heavy rain all day. Therefore, they were delighted that no sooner had we arrived through a misty grey field that the clouds parted and for the best part of the day we were bathed in sunshine from those autumn skies that poets write about!

Oak Group found an old tarp that they were keen to fashion into a den - next week knit tying skills!
and there was yet more Conker creativity and competitiveness!
