Busy Little Butterflies are back in Broad Oak
The meadows had been mown and Brimstone group delighted as two row deer darting out of the wood on our arrival.
We began by reviewing our Forest School promises:
“I promise to look after myself.”
“We promise to look after each other.”
“We promise to look after the Wonderful Woods.”
We discussed ways we could keep these promises: walking around the outside of the fire circle, staying inside the boundaries, helping a friend if they fall, not picking the plants and looking after the animals.
The children remembered from last year how the oils in our hands can burn the skins of mini beasts. They listened and shared ideas beautifully and this introductory briefing will get shorter by the week as they become more confident and quicker to recall the boundaries.
Then it was time to play. Choices included building bug houses, balancing on fallen trees, making muddy puddles, finding sweet chestnuts, hide & seek, woodland families, den building and much much more.
At lunch, Orange Tips introduced the adults to the game of ‘Yesterday’. Afterwards, Bumblebee revealed why we couldn’t go & see the tadpoles in the pond by lifting one of the bricks of the fire circle….ask your Elephant!
We spent time unpicking what our four School values mean and our Forest School value. I wonder if your butterfly can remember what they all are and give you an example of when they showed that value during the day? We will revisit them next week.
