A Nettle Feast

Courage was the order of the day as the children set out to forage for nettles. Having discussed the wonders of the 'Mighty Nettle' and how to be safe and responsible forager, we set off! The children had the choice as to whether or not to forage with or without gloves and whilst there were several stings EVERYBODY was incredibly brave and decided that the sting was actually quite a nice zingy sensation if you 'chose to look at it that way'.

Back at Stump Central, the nettles were blanched (to remove the sting) and then they were sorted into 'crisp-worthy-candidates' and 'pakora-blitzing'.

Once, the recipe for the pakoras was made up and the crisps and pakoras were ready the children's taste buds were the ones that were given the opportunity to take a leap of faith and try something new. Some children were a little reluctant, however, having heard the seals of approval and pleads for seconds almost everybody decided that they were going to give them a go.

'I'm glad I did otherwise I would never realised how much I loved them.'

'Please can we have the recipe?'

The group also had a visit from the Broad Oak Easter Bird who had laid some rather special eggs for them.

We will really miss the Brimstones and Orange Tips - they have shown all our school values this term. It is a joy to experience and learn from nature with them. I look forward to our Sunshine and Supper after the holidays.
