Learning Environment

We have created an exciting and stimulating learning environment, both inside the school building and outdoors, in which the children can be creative and develop their own learning styles. 

We understand the importance of inspirational play areas for all ages of children and we try hard to make our outdoor play spaces fun for our children.

Our Building

Built in 1998 our school building is modern, light and spacious.  Each year has its own classroom and there are dedicated spaces within the building for small groups of children to work with a teaching assistant either on the classroom corridor in a screened space or in a break-out room. We have a large hall for PE classes, Collective Worship and other whole school activities and it is equipped with a large projector screen for presentations  as well as comprehensive lighting and sound equipment for our school productions. We have dedicated spaces for our children with special or additional educational needs and these include the Sunshine Room and the Scotty Room which is a soft, nurturing space which provides a home-from-home space in the school.  We are fortunate to have a space dedicated to Music where our class music lessons take place as well as peripatetic music lessons and music clubs.  Our school library is in the centre of the school and holds a good stock of all types of books including the latest titles. 

Our IT Infrastructure 

We have a wireless network within the school that is sized well above our current requirements.  We have invested in over 60 Chromebooks and 30 iPads  for use by all the children who collect them from their charging cabinets on the corridors and take them to their classrooms to use.  This significant investment has allowed us to embed Digital skill development and literacy within our curriculum without having to teach IT as a separate subject.  Each of our classrooms is equipped with an interactive whiteboard attached to our network and each teacher has their own laptop for creating documents and connecting to the whiteboard as well as an iPad.  We ensure the school’s use of IT keeps pace with home and business use of IT through researching the leading use of IT in education.

Our Outdoor Space

Over the years our outdoor space has been transformed with a real emphasis on providing good quality play spaces and equipment for the children and a concern for the environment.  Quite apart from the stunning view, we have developed many natural areas for the children to make use of to support their learning including a rustic outdoor teaching space which is used for forest school activities and other outdoor teaching areas which are used for outdoor learning: from bushcraft to maths.  We have a bio-diverse outdoor space and our outdoor learning spaces include a wildlife walk, greenhouse, a pond with pond dipping platforms, a willow house and a raised planting areas. 

Our play space is extensive and includes tarmac playgrounds and grass areas and a rubber surfaced area set out with wooden play equipment for climbing.  Our Reception Class also has its own large, well equipped play area adjoining the classroom.

We are fortunate to have access to the Chequer Field football pitch which adjoins the school and this is used regularly for games lessons, clubs, sports day and snowman building in the winter!  We have our own school car park for parents use and this is where we keep our school mini-bus which is used for sports events and other local trips and outings.

In September 2015 we became a leading Forest School as we recognise the importance of providing our children with a variety of Outdoor Learning Experiences. Each week we take two classes to a local Woodland for a morning or afternoon spread over a whole term, so that the children can experience Forest School approaches to learning. Please look at the Forest School  information pages to find out more.

In September 2021 our fabulous outdoor classroom has been refitted as an incredible Design & Technology with wonderful wooden workshop benches and other equipment, with the other half of the building dedication to become a Godly play space.
