Goudhurst & Kilndown Church of England Primary School

Federation & Governance

The 10:10 PRIMARY FEDERATION

Hi! I’m Oliver Miller - I’m chair of our 10:10 Federation governing board.

As governors we plan the strategic direction of the school, oversee budgets, and support
and challenge the headteacher.
As a Governing Board we play a vital role in helping 10:10 Federation schools run
efficiently and effectively to give children the best education possible.
Let’s look at our functions more closely:

1. Planning the strategic direction of the school
Together with the Executive Head Teacher, Heads of Schools and Deputy Head
teachers we set the vision for Goudhurst and Kilndown and Benenden Schools.
Our Federation vision is to be learning communities that enable people to live life in all
its fullness in a changing world.

Our most important focus is on your children and our staff. We support them with
building meaningful relationships so they can develop and fulfil their potential.
As Governors in a Church of England school, we inspire our communities to live values
for life: curiosity, courage, compassion and commitment as told in the story of the Good
Samaritan in the bible.

2. Overseeing budgets
Our role is to oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure the money we
receive is well spent. We achieve this through monitoring and working closely with our
business manager.

3. Supporting and challenging the Headteacher
We are responsible for holding our school leadership to account. Our role is strategic
rather than operational. As governors we don’t get involved with the day to day running
of the school, instead supporting and challenging the leadership team to drive school
improvement.

There’s more information about how we go about our work further down this page. Please

The governors of The 10:10 Primary Federation believe it is important that board reflects the diversity of the school communities they serve. Diverse boards promote inclusive school environments and provide diverse role models for staff and young people.

The governors are currently collecting data on the diversity of the board, including data on age, gender and ethnicity. They will use that data to inform their recruitment and training needs and ensure there is always a diverse range of perspectives around the table to support robust decision making.

Due to our relatively small governing body we do not publish this diversity data online as individual governors could be identified and we have a legal obligation to protect their personal data.

We are using the Governor hub profile tool which allows us to write down ethnicity, gender etc although we have given governors the option of how much they want to divulge.  It is obviously not public.
