Church Inspection

Submitted by headteacher on Sunday, February 4, 2018 - 14:52

As a Church of England School we are inspected both by Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) and the National Society for Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS). In the 2013 SIAS Inspection the school was judged to be “Outstanding” and I am delighted to report that following our recent SIAMS Inspection January 2018, the school was judged to be "Outstanding" again. Comments from the inspection include:

"The commitment and vision of the headteacher, is confidently supported by her staff and governors. This results in highly effective leadership and management of Goudhurst and Kilndown as a distinctive and inclusive church school."

"The learning environment, both inside and outside the school building, makes a significant contribution to the spiritual development of pupils."

"The behaviour of all learners is exceptional. All relationships are underpinned by a mutual respect for each individual, reflecting the Christian character and values of the school."

"Pupils also have an opportunity to develop independence, team work and self-confidence through the forest school. The associated outdoor activities enable them to set aspirational goals for themselves with impact on their subsequent achievement in class."

We are extremely proud of this judgement and are working to build further on the strong links between the Church and school.  You can read the full report by following clicking on the icon below.

Christingle

Submitted by headteacher on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 - 10:05

On Friday, it was wonderful to celebrate, as a whole school, the annual Christingle service.  The service and the 250 Christingles were prepared by Year 6; the readers, in particular, spoke with real confidence, clarity and expression. Year 6's performance was only equalled by the superb singing from the rest of the school during our special Christingle hymns.

Click here to watch the video that was collated by Year 6 to show what the Christingle represents:

Thank you for all your kind donations to the Children's Society. So far we have raised £398.10 which is amazing.

Visit to Canterbury Cathedral

Submitted by headteacher on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 - 00:02

Today Year 6 were one of a number of schools who visited Canterbury Cathedral. They took part in a variety of workshops and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. Demi and Sam were invited to lead Worship at the event which they did with confidence and eloquence. Indeed Bishop Trevor made a point of speaking to Mr Goodman afterwards and said: "Your worship leaders gave an extraordinary and flawless performance."

We are all very proud of you year 6!

Harvest Festival

Submitted by headteacher on Thursday, September 21, 2017 - 23:08

Thank you to all those parents who kindly donated harvest gifts this week. Also to those parents who transported the gifts and decorated St. Mary's Church in preparation for our service. Indeed what a wonderful service it was! Caroline reminded us that Harvest was a time for thanksgiving and generosity. She retold the story of the Rich Fool to help us reflect on the folly of placing too much value on material wealth. Moreover, the children filled the church with their singing, poems, paintings and prayers. Indeed it was a delight to see so many parents and members of the community coming together at the service to help us celebrate, enjoy and achieve, together!

All your donated gifts will be taken to the Food Bank in Tunbridge Wells known as Nourish or will be distributed to local people.

If you would like to continue to help people in our own Community beyond Harvest time, please leave food items particularly dry food stuffs in St. Mary's Church which will then be stored in their Community Cupboard. Anyone who is struggling with bills and food costs can then go and take what they need - no questions asked.

Once again thank you for your support.
