On Wednesday 13th June a boys team and a girls team from year five competed in the St Gregory’s Football Fiesta in Tunbridge Wells.
Unfortunately I was unwell so I owe a big bucket of gratitude to Graham Dignan, Sarah Newton and Sean Gilder for stepping up as coaches for the day. They have reported back to me that both teams played well and enjoyed a day of football in the sun. The boys ended their morning games in joint second position but, due to goal difference, they went through to the 3rd/4th place play offs. They ended in a very worthy 4th place. The girls played out of their socks and ended up in the final where they achieved the silver medal position. Apparently Fifi is an amazing striker and Naomi was given the honour of being named Goal keeper of the event!!!
Well done to all of you and thank you to parents for lifts to and from the venue, I’m sure the parking was fun!!!!
For those of you with children who are good footballers St Greg’s is definitely worth a look at as they run a boys and girls Football Academy within the school.
Today each class took part in a fitfence workshop. In class three we learnt how to do the 'en garde' stance, how to attack and defend and used plastic and foam swords. All the children had a great time learning how to fight safely.
On Tuesday 22nd March, 15 children travelled to High Weald Academy to partcipate in the WOKSSA Netball festival.Despite never playing a game of netball against another school or team, the children put in weeks of practise to be ready for the big event! We were lucky enough to take two teams, Goudhurst A and Goudhurst B. Playing against 7 teams, the children gave their all on court, impressing both parents and spectators. Goudhurst A played 7 games, were a fantastic team and WON every single game, finishing in 1st place and taking the trophy home! Goudhurst B also played excellently, finishing in 6th place; winning one game and drawing another in spectacular form! An outstanding evening of netball and outstanding play and determination by all. Well done!!!
Parents and family members then visited the school in the afternoon to celebrate all that the children have achieved throughout the year. I felt very proud, there was a real buzz in the school, a sense of community and a feeling of success! It was also wonderful to see so many people, the school looked amazing thank you to all the staff and children for their hard work and thank you to you for your interest and support.
Enormous congratulations to Lily Hughes, Antonia Barry, Cayden Barker, Will Tuson, Poppy Hensey, Fifi Chapman, Oscar Dignan, Boris Gallacher, Olivia Gent, Alisha Steel, Joe, Jack Mercer, Katie Brush, Minty Sargeant, Freddie Croft and Piers Arscott. A very big thank you to Oscar for stepping in at the last moment....he didnt do too badly....winning every event!!! Thank you also to all the parents who supported the event and of course to Mrs Mileham for training the children and leading them to success.
Now the pressure is on for next year!!!
