Our Christian value for this term is - Peace and we will be teaching it through the parable of the The Good Samaritan Luke 10:30-37

Our Collective Worship is a daily gathering of the whole school for worship, praise and prayer.  The children enter the hall quietly and we always begin with beautiful music and the lighting of a candle, lit by someone with a birthday.  We always finish with the new School Prayer (which now feels embedded within our worship so is perhaps not as 'new' as all that!) as well as prayers from the school prayer wall where children have written their own prayers. Sometimes we finish with a gentle sign of the peace.
 
On Monday, Mrs Omer helped the children understand that peace and calm is needed in our lives and the story of Jesus sailing on the Lake of Galilee was acted out with the whole school joining in to explain the importance of peace and calmness. On Tuesday the children learnt and practised more songs and Wednesday's Collective Worship helped us all understand Jesus as the light and how even in darkness, a little light goes a very long way.  Jesus talked about how He is the light and Caroline talked about how Jesus can lighten our lives in many ways.  Thursday's Collective Worship was about our Christian value of PEACE and how there are many different ways to show peace.  Please ask your child for a selection! We celebrated Celebration Assembly on Friday, and there were a lot of medals, prizes and many peace value stickers awarded, as well hearing about all the childrens' achievements outside of school.
 
Our Christian value this term is peace and we use Jesus' parable of The Good Samaritan from Luke 10:30-37 as a way of helping us understand the concept of community.  Yet again, as with all parables, it's not an easy one - there is a lot to 'unpick'. Small stories with big meanings!
 
Congratulations to Kalel Bass, Elizabeth Khan, Angus Murray and Jack Knight who were all presented with Peace awards this week.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Jo Bowman for the wonderful bunting displayed in the entrance hall. Thank you also to Year 4 who created the lettering and Caroline Turvey for her inspirational idea. Jo is already planning for Advent so please watch this space!

After School Care
Thank you to all the parents who have used our after school club so far. We have 32 children signed up on the register already which is amazing and we hope the numbers continue to grow. Watch out for special activity sessions leading up to Christmas- an ideal opportunity for you to be able to have an extended day completing your Christmas Shopping.
A reminder of the options available to parents -

Session times

3.15 - 4.30pm     -    £4.00 per session per child

3.15 - 6.00pm     -    £12.00 per session per child to include a packed tea

4.15 - 6.00pm    -    £8.00 per session per child to include a packed tea

Just to remind you parents can book via the school money website using their usual password.  Booking are available up to 12.00pm for the following day but must be paid for at time of booking. I do hope you will try and support this service; if you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please note: In the event of the cancellation of a booking of less than 24 hours notice unfortunately full payment is required.  For more than 24 hours notice please see Mrs Found who will discuss how to use a credit for a future session.

Art Projects for Schools

You may have heard via your child that everyone has now completed designing their Christmas card and these have now been collected by Art Projects for Schools. 
 
 
These will be scanned and allocate an unique ordering code which will be attached to each child's card design.   This information will be uploaded on to the Art Projects for Schools website ordering system.
 
The designs will then be returned to school with detailed ordering instructions for parents. 
 
*      Parents are able to select choose from a selection of messages, create a personalised greeting or to leave the card blank.
*      Can select whether to order cards, wrapping paper and/or gift tags.
*      A choice of standard or luxury cards are available.
Please note the deadline to place online orders is 13th November.
 
 
The ordered Christmas Cards will be delivered to school by 20th November.  
Young Voices Concert

The deadline for children of the choir wishing to attend the Young Voices Concert 2018 is approaching. Permission slips and order forms for tickets and t-shirts need to be returned no later than Friday 10th November to Mr Gray please.

The Autumn term Parent Consultation Evenings are arranged for Tuesday 14th November and Thursday 16th November.

For classes YR, Y1, Y3 and Y4 (10 minute appointments):

Tuesday 14th November - 3.30 - 6.30pm

Thursday 16th November - 4.30 - 7.30pm

 

For Y2  (10 minute appointments ) :

Tuesday 14th November 3.30 - 7.00pm

Thursday 16th Nobember 5.00 - 7.30pm

 

For Y5 and Y6  (15 minute appointments):

Tuesday 14th November - 3.30 - 7.15pm

Thursday 16th November 4.30 - 8.15pm

We were pleased to send out the proof-cards via the children’s book bags for the 2017 school photographs on Wednesday.  

The proof-cards contain detailed ordering instructions.  To place an order, you can do this either online or via school - to order online, please go to www.alitusonphotographs.co.uk, click on the ‘Schools’ tab and enter your unique access code.  If you’d prefer to place an order via school, then please follow the instructions on the proof-card and return your envelope to the school office.  
 
Please place your orders by next Wednesday 8th November for delivery by the end November.   Postage will be free of charge for orders received by this date.
 
We hope you like Ali’s more natural and informal style of pictures - the photographs are an additional fundraising method for the school so please support if you can.

Wanted - Items for the YR Outdoor Area

Dear Parents

Ms Lane is trying to make Child-Initiated experiences for the children in Hippos class as 'real' as possible, specifically in role-play areas, the outdoor 'Home Corner' and the 'Mud Kitchen' area. She is in the process of filling these areas with real utensils such as frying pans, baking trays, whisks, mixing bowls, large spoons etc. If you have any old kitchen utensils that you know longer need, Ms Lane would very gratefully receive these items for the Reception class children.

The Buddy Magician visited on 20th October - a great afternoon for Y6/YR buddies.

Bonfire Disco – Thursday 2nd November – thank you very much to all helpers/bouncers/dancers for getting involved.

Non-uniform Day – Friday 3rd November – thank you very much for donations of toys for “Hook a Bag” event at the Christmas Bazaar.

 Christmas Bazaar 2017…… How YOU can help….

 We know!! It feels like life is only just returning to normal after the long summer holidays so we apologize for mentioning Christmas already but please note that this year’s Bazaar will take place on Saturday 25th November 2-4pm.

 As all our older (or should we say more experienced!) parents will know, the Christmas Bazaar is a big date in the children’s diary.  They love coming into the transformed school to play games, win prizes and meet the man in red.  The Christmas Bazaar is one of our main fundraising events and ensures the children enjoy many additional experiences throughout the school year.  It is also a great chance for parents to sit and chat over a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine, as well as picking up some great gifts for family and friends.

 We could not run this event without the amazing parent support that our school enjoys and with that in mind please take a minute or two to look through the list below to see how you can help with this year.

 Things you could do now:

 Christmas Trees: - Order your Nordmann Christmas Tree through the school. Order forms have been sent out and are in the foyer. All trees will be delivered to school on Friday 31st November for collection.

 Tea Towels: These are being designed and ordered in the next week so watch out for the order form and the sample in the foyer.

 Jewelry Stall: Any old or unwanted jewelry gratefully received. Please leave in the labelled tray in the foyer.

 Teddy Tombola: Donations of good condition cuddly toys needed. Please drop in the foyer.

 Raffle Prizes:  As well as the dazzling hampers we put together from your donations, we also like to include as many enticing prizes as possible, these have included theatre tickets, days out to local attractions, golf days, pamper days etc.  If you have any contacts that would be willing to support us please let us know.  They are most gratefully received.

 Craft Stall Creations:  If you are a creative diva we would love to be able to sell your creations on the stall (lavender bags, vases, purses, decorations – anything children or adults might like to buy.)  A few of whatever you can make would be most welcome.

 Adult Prizes:  The teacher’s tombola will need donations of wine, chocolates, bath time treats and anything else you think a grown-up might buy a ticket for.  Donations to the office please.

 Secret Santa:  This is a stall where NO ADULTS ARE ALLOWED.  The children have the chance to buy you a delightful surprise for Christmas.  Perfect items for this stall include unwanted corporate gifts, hotel toiletries, anything from last Christmas that somehow never found its way out the box… Please put all donations in the Secret Santa box outside the office.

 We’re Jammin… (Preserves, Pickles, Chutneys):  If you are making a batch of jam, pickle or chutney from your recent harvest please save one for the produce stall.  Flavoured oils, Vodka / Sloe gin are wonderful sellers too!

 Have a clear out!  The toys and book stalls are always popular with the kids and a good chance to de-clutter!  Working toys, books, dolls, teddies, CDs, DVDS please (no videos though).  There will be a box outside the office for donations a week before the bazaar.

 Watch this space!

 Now we are back from half term, lists of items required for HAMPERS will go into each class window.  Please put your name against an item (or two!) and bring into school before Thursday 16th November, as hampers are made up on the Friday and will then go on display for a week in the school.

Keep your eyes open for the BOGOF’s at your local supermarket of choice, and slip the “free” in for the school!!

 Refreshments:  We will also be begging for mulled wine and minced pies for the refreshments stall.

Closer to the day we will be asking for donations of cakes for the cake stall.

 Manning the stalls: Each class is allocated the running of one or two stalls at the Bazaar.  Your class rep will be in touch shortly with details of which stall your class will be running.  Please see your rep or the list that will be available and put your name down for a slot.  Its great funs and is the only way we can make this huge event the success it is.  We are aware that everyone is feeling the pinch, and are even more grateful for your continued support.

 We look forward to seeing our beautiful Grotto this year which is again very kindly being designed and fitted out by Shereen & Greg Shimmin.

Blind Lane, Goudhurst

 TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14 (2) as amended by

The Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991

Kent County Council gives notice that Blind Lane, Goudhurst will be closed to through traffic, on or after 30 October 2017 for up to 5 Days.

The road will be closed at Various Areas Throughout.

The alternative route is via Lidwells Lane - North Road.

The closure is necessary to enable Pothole Blitz to be carried out by KCC Highways.

This Notice applies when the relevant signs and barriers are on site, and is valid for a period of no more than 5 days.
