In September 2017, the whole of the school will have moved across to the Inspire Maths programme.
Inspire Math is a Singapore based Mastery approach to teaching Maths. The backbone of the programme and pedagogy is a structured Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, which allows children to gain a deeper understanding. Concrete allows children a hands-on to Maths using manipulatives, the Pictorial where the Concrete is transferred into a visual model. The abstract is where the concrete and visual is either 'transferred' and explained verbally or written down in some form of calculation.
Watch this video, highlighted recent research by Oxford University to find out why we have chosen to switch to Inspire:
A Parent's perspective
Inspire Maths follows the National Curriculum, but takes it to a much deeper and more thorough level, where children are able to apply their skills to more abstract and varied problems; in short, we aim for the programme to help us develop more resilient, flexible and skilled Mathematicians at Goudhurst & Kilndown.

Although Inspire have yet to develop a specific EYFS programme yet, we still follow the basis principles of variation in number and counting in Hippo Class in order to prepare them for Year 1 and beyond. See this document from the Singapore Educational Department for more information.
