Welcome to Year One, Elephant Class!
Welcome to Key Stage 1! In Year 1 we take the first steps from the Early Years curriculum to the ever-so-slightly more formal National Curriculum. The learning in Key Stage 1 is more teacher led than in Reception, but we don't forget about the benefits of holistic, play-based learning, and so our timetable involves a healthy mix of both, including a lot of time outdoors on the grounds and in our outdoor learning area.
We cover a range of cross-curricular topics in Year 1, starting with 'Space Quest' and 'The World is our Oyster' in the Autumn term, 'Under the Sea' and 'There's No Pace Like Home' in the Spring term, and 'African Explorers' and 'Nature Detectives' in the Summer term.
Miss Wilford and Mrs Found will be in Elephant class Monday - Thursday every week and Mrs Stanford and Mrs Found will be in Elephant Class on Friday's for lots of Science and out-door learning fun!
