Another week has passed and we have found ourselves in the last week of term again - how time flies! We had a fab week last week, spending the vast majority of it outside. The children participated in a 'house' shelter building competition which really boosted the comradery within the houses. The children also got to see Greg Clark officially open The Hide (outdoor classroom) and renovated pond area. A lovely varied week in all.
HELP: Each class has been asked to make a Royal Scarecrow for the School Fete on Saturday 9th June. With time passing by quickly I am hoping to recruit a team of Hippo Parents to come in and take control of this task! Perhaps a group could get together and come in for a morning/afternoon/day(!) to create our contribution, working with small groups of children at a time. Please let me know asap if you can help as I will need to come up with a contingency plans if parents can't help this time. Many thanks.
Sunny weather: We endeavour to spend as much time outdoors as possible, so please ensure your child has a sun hat available to them at all times (labelled please!) and please apply a generous layer of long lasting sunscreen to your child in the morning. We do have a box full of spare hats, so we always ensure the children's heads are protected, but we do ask you to liberally apply sunscreen. We always ensure the children have access to water whenever they want it, and we are lucky that much of the outdoor area we used is shaded. In extreme heat, rest assured that we will not stay outdoors for prolonged amounts of time.
Things to know this week: I will be out all day on Monday; I am a Kent County Moderator and part of my role requires that I visit a range of schools to ensure consistency and accuracy of their assessments of the children. Mrs Coleman will be leading the way in her usual wonderful style.
On Wednesday it is our theme day - hopefully you have your child's costume ready by now (pirate themed, or under the sea) We do have a some spare costumes if need be so do not worry if you've not sorted this.
On Thursday there is the School Disco (see calendar for details)
Lastly, Mrs Coleman and myself wish you a restful and fun half term break.
This week will be revising our learning from over the term. We are going to pay close attention to shape, space and measure (in particular 3D shapes) and we are going to look at counting on and back from a giving number by learning to keep that number in our heads.
Phonics and Literacy
Phonics: We will continue revising phase 4 tricky sounds and practicing our letter formation.
Literacy: After our Pirate theme day we will spend Thursday and Friday writing the ultimate Pirate story. We will revisit the features of fiction writing, predominantly thinking about ensuring we have a beginning, middle and end to our writing, and use all the inspiration from Stephen Mortimer and his re-telling of 'Treasure Island' to inspire our ideas.
