We have our 'Space and Superheroes' day on Friday! Children may come in dressed as their favourite superhero (or any version of a superhero that they are comfortable with) or as something Space-themed. In the earlier part of this week the children will help plan the theme day, including a range of good deads, making their own 'Supertato' (please remember to send in large spud on Friday) and an afternoon of Superhero fun with the buddies. All of our learning this week will centre around our theme day, with a particular focus on 'Superheroes'.
Many many thanks for holding on to your child's costume for the Nativity performances. I'm happy for costumes to start coming in this week. Please label absolutely everything, including the plastic bag that you send the costume in. It would be massively helpful if you could perhaps teach your child (as much as possible) how to put their costume on ahead of sending it in. Many thanks!
Christmas: I aim to give the classroom a Christmassy feel next week. If you have any decorations that you no longer need, it would be lovely if you could donate them to the classroom. Thank you.
Dates for your Diary: Please cast your eye over this for additional information (Christmas jumper day is on the same day as the Children's christmas lunch, and children may bring a change of clothes for their Christmas party on the 19th)
Literacy and Phonics
We have now completed Phase 2 phonics and will spend the next 2 weeks revising all of the sounds we have learnt. We will also practise all of the techniques learnt in order segment and blend sounds for reading and writing.
Our writing focus this week is all to do with our Space and Superheroes theme day on Friday. The children will make, bake and decorate their own Superhero-Men (gingerbread men with a twist) and write a set of instructions to explain how they made them. They will also write an invitation fot their buddy, asking them to join us for an afternoon of fun on Friday.
The children will learn about measure, specifically to do with measuring out ingredients for the gingerbread superheroes they will be making. We will talk generally about the weight of the ingredients, as well as capacity (for jelly making for the buddy afternoon) we will talk about measure in the context of non-standard units of measure.
Expressive art and design
The children will be involved in a lot of Nativity rehearsal this week. The show is looking and sounding spectacular and the children are getting really excited to show you what they have been building up to.
Moving and Handling (PE)
The children are well in to their 'large aparatus' unit of work, taught by both myself and Mrs Mileham. The children have spent a fair amount of time learning how to safely manoeuvre the equipment, and how to descend from heights safely. They have done a fabulous job and have really enjoyed the time spent climbing the equipment and demonstrating fantastic balances. Children will continue with this unit of work until christmas.
