Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you had a fantastic break with the little ones and ready to get going in to another full on term in Hippos class.
Our over-arching theme this term is 'Building'. Have a look at the Topic Web on Hippos class page on the website to see how the theme weaves in and out of each of the Early Years areas of learning. We will be tying in our theme with our learning in Forest School and I will be working closely with Mrs Stanford (Tawny Owl) to bring the children's learning from the forest to the children's in-class learning'.
Have a look at our 'builders' role play for this term;
Forest School - It will be cold. Very cold. It will take a couple of sessions for the children to adjust to Forest School, but beyond the transition phase they will get some much from it the perseverance is so worthwhile. As you know, Forest School will be every Wednesday. Children will either participate in the morning or afternoon sessions and it would be helpful if you could tell them what session they are in. Please ensure that your children know what clothing they are expected to wear and have a practice getting in and out of their clothing. Not only does this speed up the changing process, it ensures your children wear the items you have intended for them to wear. Thank you. Mrs Stanford (Tawny Owl) has told me that the clothing website 'Wet Wednesdays' have a great clearance on for anyone that has not yet bought forest school clothing. My tip would be toes...please ensure your children have the warmest socks you can possibly purchase. And gloves...mittens are good if the children can't put on their own gloves. I will be attended Forest School with the children every other Wednesday.
Please bring back PE kits.
This week's learning
As we have only 2 days of this week lest, we will spend the two days producing work to go on a fantastic display.
The children will be producing a 'Nature Vs Man' display about building. We will be looking at the things built by nature; drawing them, replicating them with Art materials, photographing them and writing about them. We will also do the same with things built by man. We are aiming for a four and five year olds perspective on this so the work will be quite candid. We will then discuss the positive aspects of each, and in some cases the negatives. We will develop our ideas about 'Man Vs Nature' over the course of the term and reassess/add to our display.
Back to the nitty gritty next week when regular Maths, Phonics and Literacy sessions are back alongside the other areas of learning.
