Week Beginning Monday 26th March 2018 (Miss Wilkins)

Class 5 Zebras
For week beginning: 26th March 2018

Welcome to week the very last week of term 4 L

I’m very, very sad this amazing term is coming to an end. We have had a fantastic term and have learnt so much. I think we are all very exhausted and ready for the up and coming break.

We do, however, have another very busy week this week and have a lot to get through, but we like a challenge in year 5.

This week is the Arts Festival and the children should be ready and prepared for this. I shall be there in the evening to support and help with costumes etc. I am incredible excited to see everyone perform.

As always, children have their Accelerated Reader usernames and passwords. Please can we continue to encourage the children to complete a comprehension test once they have completed a text. If you have any problems, please do ask the children to sort these with me. Most books should be on there! TO LOG ONTO ACCELERATED READER CLICK HERE:

We had a fantastic week with spellings last week and we had an incredible amount of super spellers. I hope to continue this in the coming week as it was fantastic to see such wonderful results.

We shall not be having a trumpet session this week.

Finally, we have our Easter church service on Thursday and it would be wonderful if you could attend.

Remember the clocks change this weekend, lack of sleep but longer days…FINALLY!

Miss Wilkins

For week beginning Monday 26th March (2018)

-In our reading sessions the children will be using Reading VIPERS to help with their comprehensive skills. This involves children looking at vocabulary, inference, predictions, explanations, retrieval of information and sequencing or summarising within a chosen text. Further to this, the children have each selected a reading book which they continue to be expected to take home every evening and read for 20 minutes either independently or with someone else (even if they read to their pet). We are lucky to have a wonderful parent reader who is reading with the children each week and they will be expected to read the book they have selected to read independently.  Please ensure they are logging on to Accelerated Reader when they have completed a book! We are always looking for help with parent readers so if anyone is interested and willing to support our children in their reading then please pop in and see me at any point this term. This week we will be answering comprehension questions with regards to the text Beowulf.

-In our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons this week we will continue to look at prefixes. Our week will consist at becoming confident in words ending with the ‘shus’, ‘shul’, ‘ant’, ‘ence’, ‘ancy’, ‘ency’ and ‘ance’.

-In our writing lessons this week we shall continue to explore persuasive writing and will be typing up our persuasive letters.

-Our Mathematic lessons begin each day with a mental maths activity. This term we are continuing to work on answering multi-step operations using addition, multiplication, division and subtraction and problem solving and reasoning questions.

-This week in our Maths lessons we will be focusing on percentages of amounts an problem solving with percentages.

-MA continues to be due in every Thursday.

This term we will be exploring ‘The Weather’.

-Within my PE sessions this term we will be focussing on tag rugby.

-Mrs Mileham will be focussing on gymnastics.

-All children are expected to take part in the daily mile run at 9am. No trainers…no run!

-Please can it be reminded that PE kits and trainers should be in school every single day of the school week.

This week we will be using our previous Anglo-Saxon brooch designs to create a model broch made from clay.

This term we will be looking at using the programme Audacity to create interviews. This week we shall be planning to build a school building. Children will interview children and ‘designers/architects’ about their building ideas. Children will edit the content.

Next term we are focussing heavily on reading and will be creating a wall display on one of the boards in our classroom. Next week we will     organise this work by writing book reviews and blurbs about our favourite books.  During the weekend think about your own favourite book and jot down some ideas about what you might write in a book review about this particular book. Use the sheet provided to record your ideas.
