Week Beginning Monday 23rd April 2018 (Miss Wilkins)

Class 5 Zebras
For week beginning: 23rd April 2018

Welcome to week 2 of the summer term 5! Wow, what beautiful weather we had last week. It definitely put a spring in my step when coming to school each day. I hope you have/had a wonderful weekend in the sunshine.

This week the children shall continue to explore our new topic of the Ancient Greeks. We have already had so much fun exploring such an important part of history.

Just a reminder, as the weather gets warmer the children are expected to have to correct uniform in school for such occasions. I ask that they all have a hat and sun cream available.

As the children are reading more at school and hopefully at home, I ask that they complete an Accelerated Reader test as soon as they have completed. If you have any problems, please do ask the children to sort these with me. Most books should be on there! TO LOG ONTO ACCELERATED READER CLICK HERE:

As there was some confusion over the spelling test last week and some interesting results, I have asked that the children do the same spellings for next week. They do not have any further spellings in their books so please focus on week 12.

Trumpet lessons continue to be every Tuesday. Please ensure the children come to school with their instruments.

MA books have been given back to the children and they are required to complete these ready for submission on Thursday 26th April. Homework is, as always, due in on Wednesday.

Finally, as stated in our school calendar, our Victrix session for the Ancient Greeks will take place on Wednesday 26th May in the morning. The children are able to dress up in Ancient Greek costume if they please. We will then spend the afternoon further exploring the Ancient Greeks

As always, my door is always open at the end of the day if you wish to discuss anything further J

Kind regards

Miss Wilkins

For week beginning: 23rd April 2018

-In our reading sessions the children will be using Reading VIPERS to help with their comprehensive skills. This involves children looking at vocabulary, inference, predictions, explanations, retrieval of information and sequencing or summarising within a chosen text. Further to this, the children have each selected a reading book which they continue to be expected to take home every evening and read for 20 minutes either independently or with someone else (even if they read to their pet). We are lucky to have a wonderful parent reader who is reading with the children each week and they will be expected to read the book they have selected to read independently.  Please ensure they are logging on to Accelerated Reader when they have completed a book! We are always looking for help with parent readers so if anyone is interested and willing to support our children in their reading then please pop in and see me at any point this term. This week we will be answering comprehension questions with regards to an extract regarding the London Marathon.

-In our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons this week we will be focussing on commas, conjunctions and statutory and non-statutory spellings. Our spelling test will be held on Wednesday afternoon.
