Week Beginning 11th December 2017 (Miss Wilkins)

Class 5 Zebras
For week beginning: 11th December 2017

Welcome to week 7 of term two! Welcome to December, my favourite month of the year!! Also, this is our final full week of the year, and what a jam packed one it will be!

We have sadly finished our trumpet lessons for this side of Christmas, so the children will not need to bring their instruments in this Tuesday. We have had a wonderful time with Mr Reid the past two terms and the children are showing progression each week. We will continue our sessions in the New Year; hold tight for a continuation date.

Sadly we have come to the end of our Forest School sessions for the year. I’m sure you will agree it has been amazing and the children have had the most wonderful time. I would like to remind you that the children and Mrs Stanford complete a blog most weeks, detailing their experiences in the forest. This can be found on the class page on the school website.

This Monday (11th) the children will be completing their ‘Great Artists through time’ masterpiece. They will be given extended time to create their masterpiece in the style of their chosen artist. The children will choose Leonardo Da Vinci, Picasso, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh or Andy Warhol. We will have the regular resources in class for the children to use, but if your child would like to have additional resources to complete their masterpiece, please feel free to bring these in on Monday.

For week beginning: 11th December 2017

This week we will be focussing on our comprehension skills. This will include explaining our answers, retrieving information and summarising.

-Our Mathematic lessons begin each day with a mental maths activity. This term we are working on answering multi-step operations using addition, multiplication, division and subtraction.

-This week in our Inspire Maths lessons we will be moving on to long division and long multiplication.

This term we will be exploring ‘do you have a pet?’

-The children are incredibly lucky this term to have three separate PE teachers! Within my PE sessions we will be taking part in invasion games, in particular the sport of netball. In our first session this week we will be identifying and completing the different passes in netball, including the chest pass, bounce pass and shoulder pass.

-Mrs Mileham will be continuing the theme of invasion games and shall be teaching tag rugby.

-Mrs Stanford will be working with the children on cross country running.

-All children are expected to take part in the daily mile run at 9am.

-Please can it be reminded that PE kits and trainers should be in school every single day of the school week

This week we will create our own weather reports. The children will be filming these and editing them.

-As previously mentioned, the children this week are required to participate in twenty minutes of reading each evening this week. I ask that the children keep a log of how many pages or chapter they read each time in their planner.

-Our spelling tests continue to be every Wednesday afternoon. It is evident that not all children are revising their spellings. It is important that we take this seriously and we improve our writing and spelling.

-For their learning journals, children have been asked to create a game to share with the class. This must have a Christmas theme, require two or more players, must have clear rules, have a winner and a loser and require props, such as cards, dice or a board. The children have until Wednesday 13th to complete this. We will play them in class!
