Week Beginning Monday 9th July 2018 (Miss Wilkins)

Class 5 Zebras
For week beginning: 9th July 2018

Welcome to week 6 of the summer term 6! Two weeks left to go! I cannot actually believe it! Now I am no longer in a Three Peaks haze, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes and support for my challenge! It was incredible, exhausting and I am very glad it is over!

Please, another reminder, as the weather is due to get warmer the children are expected to have to correct uniform in school for such occasions. I ask that they all have a hat and sun cream available and a re-usable plastic bottle for water. PE is outdoors for the remainder of term and the children are expected to wear the correct shorts and t-shirts! No more trousers please at it gets very warm very quickly! I had many disappointing conversations with children about not having their PE kit with them because they have had their kit for a sports club the day previously Unfortunately this is not acceptable and PE kits should be in school every day. This week we have PE on Wednesday and Friday.

As the children are reading more at school and hopefully at home, I ask that they complete an Accelerated Reader test as soon as they have completed. They have done very well recently and I’d love to continue this! However, we have some children who have read one million words…and some who have read nothing according to Accelerated Reader. If you have any problems, please do ask the children to sort these with me. Most books should be on there! TO LOG ONTO ACCELERATED READER CLICK HERE: https://ukhosted34.renlearn.co.uk/2241001/

Please continue to encourage and support your child with their spellings each week. They are so important for their writing and becoming a super speller means a lot for all children! This week’s spelling test (THE LAST ONE) will be on Thursday.

We have now finished with our trumpet sessions. I hope the children enjoyed it! Mr Reid was over the moon with their progress

We are slowly approaching the end of year performance of Yee Ha! The children have all been given a copy of the lyrics to the songs they will be performing! Please follow this link below to the school’s You Tube page so your child can rehearse. We have lots of rehearsals this week. Tickets are now available to collect from the office. The costume your child will need is denim jeans (preferably chopped)/shorts and a plain white t-shirt (no logo!).

Sports day is this Friday and the children have been getting prepared. Please check the newsletter for details of times etc. Your child must come with sun cream, lots of water and a hat!

On Friday afternoon we have open afternoon, an opportunity for you to come and see the children across the school learn. Mrs Stanford and I will be working together on outdoor learning. Please join us J

As always, my door is always open at the end of the day if you wish to discuss anything further J

Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning J

Kind regards

Miss Wilkins

For week beginning: 9th July 2018
English

-In our reading sessions the children will be using Reading VIPERS to help with their comprehensive skills. This involves children looking at vocabulary, inference, predictions, explanations, retrieval of information and sequencing or summarising within a chosen text. Further to this, the children have each selected a reading book which they continue to be expected to take home every evening and read for 20 minutes either independently or with someone else (even if they read to their pet). We are lucky to have a wonderful parent reader who is reading with the children each week and they will be expected to read the book they have selected to read independently.  Please ensure they are logging on to Accelerated Reader when they have completed a book! We are always looking for help with parent readers so if anyone is interested and willing to support our children in their reading then please pop in and see me at any point this term. This week we will be doing more complex comprehension work as we move closer to Year 6.
