Week Beginning Tuesday 4th June 2018 (Miss Wilkins)

Class 5 Zebras
For week beginning: 4th June 2018

I have decided to post this at the end of term 5, ready for the first week of term 6!

What a wonderful term we have had! This week in particular has been fantastic! Our Greek day has been one to remember. Thank you all for your donations towards our Greek feast! I will be posting photos of the day to our blog as soon as I have posted this!

Please, another reminder, as the weather is due to get warmer the children are expected to have to correct uniform in school for such occasions. I ask that they all have a hat and sun cream available and a re-usable plastic bottle for water. PE is outdoors for the remainder of term and the children are expected to wear the correct shorts and t-shirts! No more trousers please at it gets very warm very quickly!

As the children are reading more at school and hopefully at home, I ask that they complete an Accelerated Reader test as soon as they have completed. They have done very well recently and I’d love to continue this! However, we have some children who have read one million words…and some who have read nothing according to Accelerated Reader. I have asked that the children read throughout the half term. If you have any problems, please do ask the children to sort these with me. Most books should be on there! Please continue to encourage and support your child with their spellings each week. They are so important for their writing and becoming a super speller means a lot for all children!

Trumpet lessons continue to be every Tuesday. Please ensure the children come to school with their instruments.

MA books are back in full swing and I (and Mrs Clarke) expect these to be returned every Thursday. I have asked that the children spend a little time over the half term to look back at their previous errors/’think for pinks’.

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the secondary transition meeting this Tuesday. There were lots of important and informative details given. If you were unfortunately unable to attend, I have placed a copy of the presentation in our class blog.

Finally, the first week back is a very busy one. I will not be teaching the children on the first day of school, Mrs Stanford will be joining them.    We also have our trip on Friday 8th June to work in the forest. Mrs Stanford and Mrs Vincent have emailed all the details out and permission slips will be required back.

As always, my door is always open at the end of the day if you wish to discuss anything further J

Enjoy your weekend and have a wonderful half term.

Kind regards

Miss Wilkins

For week beginning: 4th June 2018

-In our reading sessions the children will be using Reading VIPERS to help with their comprehensive skills. This involves children looking at vocabulary, inference, predictions, explanations, retrieval of information and sequencing or summarising within a chosen text. Further to this, the children have each selected a reading book which they continue to be expected to take home every evening and read for 20 minutes either independently or with someone else (even if they read to their pet). We are lucky to have a wonderful parent reader who is reading with the children each week and they will be expected to read the book they have selected to read independently.  Please ensure they are logging on to Accelerated Reader when they have completed a book! We are always looking for help with parent readers so if anyone is interested and willing to support our children in their reading then please pop in and see me at any point this term.

-In our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons this week we will be focussing on dashes. Our spelling test will be held on Wednesday afternoon. This week is week 5.
