W/c 30th October - Mrs Donoghue - Wednesday-Friday

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 30th October 2017

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday this week.

I hope you have all had a lovely half term and are all ready for the next term – it’s typically a busy time in school and this year is no exception – especially with Y2 taking the main roles in the Nativity.  Applications need to be given to myself and Mrs Benson by Friday 3rd November.

Maths Open Morning – thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday 18th October – I hope you found it informative and could see how the children learn through the Inspire Maths scheme.

Quizlet:  I have had some positive feedback so will continue to add lists to this online resource on a weekly basis. Please follow the link:

Maths Rockstar:  This is another online resource that the school subscribes to.  We will be sticking labels into your child’s home journal this week which will show individual usernames and passwords.  This is a resource to be used predominantly at home, however I will demonstrate it to the children this week.  It is already being used in KS2 with positive results!!  The link is as follows:

Have a good week.

Mrs Donoghue

This week we will be ‘skill building’.  The children will be in two groups and will work on a different skill over two days.  The first will be focusing on spelling and using the resources to support this; i.e. the word is cloud.  The children will be asked to listen to the digraph in the middle of the word and look at the alternative spellings (ou or ow).  The will write both of them down, cloud, clowd and then choose which one looks right.

The second focus will be on using conjunctions to extend sentences such as because, and, so, if.

They will also have a spelling session on words ending in ‘y’.  For your information, they will be taught the following rule:

If there is a vowel before the ‘y’ just add ‘s’ to form the plural.

If there is a consonant before the ‘y’ change the ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add es.

We will continue adding two & three digit numbers (without re-grouping) this week, following the rules of adding the ones, then the tens and finally the hundreds.  The unit will have additional challenges including showing understanding through bar models.  At the end of the week, the children will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through problem solving.

Mrs Mileham will be teaching the children how to use the large apparatus in the hall on Friday afternoon.  Please ensure all PE kits are returned to school on Monday for Mrs Benson’s session.

We will be starting a new unit on Incarnation this week.  Over the next few weeks, the children will be able to:

  • Recognise that incarnation is part of the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible.
  • Retell the story of the birth of Jesus and recognise the link with incarnation.
  • Give at least two examples of ways in which Christians use the nativity story in churches and at home.
  • Think, talk and ask questions about the Christmas story and the lessons they might learn from it:  e.g. being kind and generous.
