W/c 30th April - Wednesday-Friday, Mrs Donoghue

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 30th April 2018

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday this week.

We have had a lovely week and all the children enjoyed Forest School.  The chicks left the school for pastures new on Friday.  Mrs Neal took 3 home with her and Mrs Tatnell took another 3.  That left us with 3 who were returned to Living Egg Projects but we would like to think we gave them a good start in life!

Best wishes,

Mrs Donoghue

Online links which support learning in class:

Squeebles: – an excellent app to be used on ipads - £2.99

Table Mountain: (evaluation version) to be used on a laptop/computer.

We will be working on fractions this week, identifying half and a quarter of a shape and number.  We will also continue with ‘puzzle books’ as mentioned in last weeks intended learning.

We will be writing poetry this week and breaking it down into parts.  On Wednesday  the children will be creating poetry maps to gather ideas and words appropriate for their poems building to the BIG WRITE on Thursday.  On Friday they will be ‘upskilling’ which will be focusing on misconceptions or gaps from the BIG WRITE.

Reading Comprehension – the children will continue to read straight after lunch on a daily basis;  they will also take part in a group reading session;  this new initiative is based around texts which typically takes 60 seconds to read before discussing questions relating to the text.

Spelling  We will be focusing on the spelling lists that were sent home prior to the holidays and linked to the Spelling Bee completion.  We would like all children to learn these words and they will be tested randomly throughout the week.  We will also be focusing on rules within the classroom which will be linked to topic words.  The children have also been given a spelling book which they are enjoying using – the children have to try and spell the word first before showing to an adult who will correct if necessary.

We have started a new unit and are now learning about the Islamic faith.  Last week we shared the story of ‘Dogger’ which led to a discussion on who is important to them.  They drew some love hearts with pictures of who is special to them and this week they will be saying why.
