W/c 19th March 2018 - Mrs Donoghue - Wednesday-Friday

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 19th March 2018

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday this week.

We held our English open morning on Friday where the children showcased the activities they do to support spelling, grammar and reading.  Thank you to those of you who attended; we hope you found it useful.

Forest School starts after Easter!  How exciting!  You will be sent further details however I can inform you that it will be every Thursday throughout the Summer term.

Best wishes,

Mrs Donoghue

Online links which support learning in class:

Squeebles: – an excellent app to be used on ipads - £2.99

Table Mountain: (evaluation version) to be used on a laptop/computer.

This week we will be looking at Time and focusing on reading the time on the clock to the nearest 15 minutes and then the nearest 5 minutes.  The 5x table is a perfect complement to time so we will be continuing with this too.  Every Maths lesson will start with a challenge; this may be a problem that we can unpick and solve or simply looking at all the ways we can show the date, e.g. Wednesday will be the 21st, so the target number will be 21.  The children will consider a range of maths concepts, including using the language greater than, less than etc.

English:  Last week the children went outside for a word gathering activity on our wonderful outdoor area.  They also created a thoughts map in their new books (they were very excited about these!) which will help them scaffold their writing this week.

Reading Comprehension – the children will continue to read straight after lunch on a daily basis;  they will also take part in a group reading session;  this new initiative is based around texts which typically takes 60 seconds to read before discussing questions relating to the text.

Spelling  Please refer to the spelling list for this week’s spellings.

As I’m sure you aware, we have our Easter service at St Mary’s on Thursday 29th March at 2pm.  Every class is participating and Kudu class are in charge of telling the part of the story where the disciples are fishing in the Sea of Galilee.  Therefore, this week we will be creating fish and freeze frames.

The children will be developing their cricket skills in PE this week with Mrs Mileham and Brian, a coach from #change to shine.
