W/c 16th October 2017 - Mrs Donoghue - Weds, Thurs & Fri

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 16th October 2017

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday this week.

It’s seems unbelievable that we are coming to the end of our first term.  Both Mrs Benson and I have really enjoyed teaching your children and are impressed with how much work they have produced over the last 7 weeks.  Autumn 2 is typically very busy, so have a wonderful, restful half term and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 30th October.

Maths Open Morning – parents are invited to join us on Wednesday 18th to see a Maths lesson in action and the opportunity to see how we use the resources you all worked hard to pay for through funding.  We hope to see as many of you as possible – there is a sign-up sheet in the foyer.

Quizlet: I’m aiming to create a quiz on Quizlet every week which supports our spelling rule in class.    It is (hopefully!) simple to use and can be accessed by clicking on a URL link.  There are 7 areas to develop the skills including flashcards and matching cards.  I have shown the children in class and they were really enthusiastic about it, however parental feedback is always very useful so please let me know what you think.

Nativity:  I know, I know but it’s going to be upon us quickly after we return after half term.  We have chosen a performance entitled Manger Mouse and all Y2 children will be asked to write a letter of application for a specific role, or roles (they may like to have some other choices).  A cast list will and synopsis will be sent home before the half term break and applications need to be given to myself and Mrs Benson by Friday 3rd November.

Have a good week.

Mrs Donoghue

We will be assessing the children’s comprehension this week through a short story about a selfish giant.  We will also be putting our creative skills to the test and drawing a story map of a short video clip, entitled ‘The way back home’.    This clip is about a young boy who builds himself a rocket and sends himself off to Space.

We will be continuing with adding two & three digit numbers (without re-grouping) this week, following the rules of adding the ones, then the tens and finally the hundreds.  The unit will have additional challenges including showing understanding through bar models.  We are planning on concluding this term with some outdoor learning on Friday.

COMING SOON… a fantastic fun app called Rockstars for children to compete against each other in their timestables – at school and at home.  They will have their own individual log in.

I will be taking the children for their second PE session of the week on Wednesday afternoon.  We will be concluding our unit on Multiskills.

The children have a 30 minute drumming session every week.  The class are split into two groups and receive excellent tuition from Ben, an external music teacher.

The children will be looking at an animation package on Wednesday afternoon and creating their own animated story of Creation.   We find it increasingly problematic that children cannot use a keyboard, or recognise the capital letters on the keys.  We would really appreciate it if you could help familiarise you son or daughter with a keyboard at home and then we can spend more time learning other skills in school. Thank you.

The children will finish their week with Art & DT.  This is still in the planning stage but is guaranteed to be creative and colourful.  This session is led by Mrs Morris who can be thanked for many of our wonderful displays in the classroom and who has a talent, and very keen interest, in this subject.
