W/c 15th January 2018

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 15th January 2018

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday next week.

It was good to see some of you at the parent information sessions last week.  The topic web, which is on our class page was the main source of discussion so please do look at that and ask any questions at the end of the day if you have any.

Have a good week.

Mrs Donoghue

Online links which support learning in class:

Maths Rockstar:

Squeebles: – an excellent app to be used on ipads - £2.99

Table Mountain: (evaluation version) to be used on a laptop/computer.

We will be finishing our unit on subtraction this week and then moving onto multiplication.  Initially we will be looking at doubling and halving and then repeated addition and simplifying it as a multiplication sum.  We continue to start our lessons with some quick fire activities;  typically these will be looking at all the ways we can show the day of the week (i.e. Wednesday’s number will be 18), then responding to questions using the counting stick and singing along to Percy Parker whilst learning times tables.  The children will also be given a weekly reasoning question which they do in pairs as well as being given activities that broaden and deepen their understanding.

The focus this week is past and present tense.  On Monday, Miss Wilford will be sending home a short survey about toys in the past.  Please look out for this as the data will be used for the writing activity on Wednesday onwards.

Reading Comprehension

The children will continue to read straight after lunch on a daily basis;  they will also take part in a group reading session;  this new initiative is based around texts which typically takes 60 seconds to read before discussing questions relating to the text.

Please refer to the spelling sheet for this week’s spellings.

We will be starting a new 6 week unit next week; I Wanna Play In A Band by Joanna Mangona is a children’s rock song.  In this unit, the children will listen to, and appraise various well known rock songs such as We Will Rock You by Queen & Rockin’ All Over The World by Status Quo.  We will then build our knowledge through a variety of musical activities before performing the song which we will record and upload on our class blog.

The question we will be discussing this term is ‘What is the good news that Jesus brings?’   This week we will be making a list with the class of 10-plus things mums, dads or other carers do to show they love their children.

Mrs Mileham will be taking the lesson this week with Brian, a cricket specialist from ‘A Chance to Shine’. Please note, that all children must have their PE kit in school; due to health and safety reasons, they will not be able to take part if they are not properly attired.

We are very fortunate that Mrs Brown is continuing with French this term; this will take place every Friday afternoon.
