w/c 13th November - Mrs Donoghue - Wednesday-Friday

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 13th November 2017

I will be in class on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday this week.

Spellings:  I hope you are now all managing to access Quizlet with the following link:    I may have inadvertently cancelled several requests to join the group – please do ask your child to re-join and I will accept them without fail!

Maths Rockstar:  I have received some feedback on Maths Rockstar.  The general opinion is that it is good but there are too many different tables for the children to do within a time limit.  I have therefore amended it to include 2, 5 and 10 times table only.  Please note, the children need to go into the ‘garage’ section.  The other areas (studio, festival and arena) cannot be set to ability and therefore include all the tables up to 12x12.   The link is as follows:

It’s worth mentioning that I can set individual targets so I will be keeping an eye on the statistics and challenging where appropriate!

Nativity:  We have now held auditions and children have been allocated to specific parts.

Parents Evening – Both Mrs Benson and I are looking forward to seeing you at the Parents Evenings on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

Have a good week.

Mrs Donoghue

This week, the children will be creating a factsheet on Meerkats as a prequel to our class text, Meerkat Mail which will form the basis of our writing activities over the next few weeks.  They will also help create a ‘washing line’ and story map of the text.

We will be continuing with subtraction this week using a range of resources such as multi-base, number lines, rulers (they use this a number line to 30), numicon and counters to name just a few.   As I mentioned last week, subtraction can be tricky so any support you can give at home would be greatly appreciated!

Something a little different..

Children in Needis on Friday 17th November and the children are invited to wear something spotty to school.  In honour of this event, both our English and Maths activities will have a Pudsey theme.  In Maths, the children will be undertaking a perimeter investigation (around Pudsey) and they will be creating a friend for Pudsey in English by drawing a picture and writing a character profile.

Mrs Mileham will be taking the children for PE on Friday afternoon; our focus this term is large apparatus.

The children are continuing to have a 30 minute drumming session every week.  Whilst we would like to be selfish and continue these sessions, we need to let Y1 and YR join in with the fun so our sessions will finish at Christmas.

We are on Week 3 Spellings this week –  Adding the endings –ing, -ed and –er to verbs where no change is needed to the root word.   An activity on quizlet has been created.

In addition to this, the  children will be starting their day with ‘take five’; taking five words from the Common Exception Word list and writing them in beautifully joined up writing!!
