W/c 11th March - Mrs Donoghue - Weds - Fri

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 12th March 2018

I will be in class on Thursday & Friday this week.

Thank you for coming to the parent consultations last week – we always enjoy talking about the progress your child has made and if we didn’t say it enough on Tuesday and Wednesday, thank you for your continued support.

We are not a school to rest on our laurels and are therefore holding an English open morning on Friday morning, the 16th March from 9.15-10.15am.  Please do join us if you can.

I am out of school on Wednesday however the class will be led by Miss Wilford and supported by Mrs Morris, Mr Draper and Mrs Clowes.

And finally, we say a fond, but at the same time sad, farewell to Miss Wilford on Friday as her placement has come to an end.  We have thoroughly enjoyed working with her and I’m sure she will be leaving with a lot of fond memories.  She will be popping into to school complete a research project so we will see her again but not in the same capacity.

Best wishes,

Mrs Donoghue

Squeebles: – an excellent app to be used on ipads - £2.99

Table Mountain: (evaluation version) to be used on a laptop/computer.

English:  This week we are going outside and gathering words to build a word bank on our lovely school.  This will be done on Thursday in preparation for the English open morning on Friday where we will showcase phonics/spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as comprehension skills.  We are also hoping to show our new ‘creative map’ books which are used as a scaffold before writing.

Reading Comprehension – the children will continue to read straight after lunch on a daily basis;  they will also take part in a group reading session;  this new initiative is based around texts which typically takes 60 seconds to read before discussing questions relating to the text.

Spelling  Please refer to the spelling list for this week’s spellings.

We hope to conclude our unit this week and will be focusing on weight and temperature.   The children have undertaken a lot of practical activities so they are now in a good position to have a go at some more challenging, abstract problems.

The 5x table remains a focus and we will be singing and marching to them throughout the week!

This week the children will be budding photographers and they will be integrating outdoor learning with English.  They will explore using a camera to take a photo using Ipads before using the editing tools on IPhoto.  E-safety will also be incorporated in this lesson.

This week the children will be creating and performing a jingle for a chocolate bar.  They will be inspired by watching some specific TV adverts before having a go.
