Thursday 12th & Friday 13th March 2020 - Mrs Donoghue

Class 2 Kudus
For week beginning: 9th March 2020

Firstly, can I say a huge thank you for all your support on Book Day last Thursday.  The children looked amazing and I was delighted that everyone took part – we all had a lovely day!  We have our own little picture gallery in the Y2 cloakroom so please take a look when you are in this week.  I will upload them to our class page on the website too.

We are looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to you about your lovely children this week at parents consultations.  Hopefully you have already signed up for a slot, but if not, please do so in the usual way.

Mrs Donoghue

English/Geography

We are back to our topic this week and focusing on South America – Brazil and the Rainforest in particular.  This will be done through a reading comprehension activity with the children developing skills in retelling and inference.

Whole Class Reading – individual and group reading

We all enjoyed reading The Twits by Roald Dahl.  Mrs Benson will be starting a new book with the class this week and I will continue reading it with them at the end of the week.  Finer details to follow!

Spelling

Spellings - the children need to learn the spellings on page 18 of the Monster Phonics book or a test next Friday.

Maths

The children are all proficient in dividing/sharing by 2,5 & 10 although it took a little bit longer as were so engrossed in book day activities!  Therefore, this week the children will be using multiplication and division facts to solve word problems.

P.E.

I will be taking the children for Dance this week.  They will be practising a range of movements and working with a partner to put together a short routine.  Please ensure all PE kits are in school.

R.E.

Another new term, another new unit!  Our topic this term is entitled ‘Salvation’ and we will be exploring the question ‘Why Easter is so important to Christians’.  This question will be explored through discussion and drama over the forthcoming weeks.
