Intended Learning- Week Commencing 05.09.17

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 30th October 2017

I hope you have had a lovely half term, and the children are feeling well rested! This term is always a very exciting one, as everyone has settled in and will be ready to learn quickly when we all return. Not to mention Christmas and the Key Stage 1 Nativity performance are just around the corner! It is also increasingly chilly, so please make sure coats are being brought in (and again it is SUCH a help if they are labelled).  I also would like to reiterate that if you have anything I need to know, or anything you are worried about, please don’t hesitate to come and talk after school is finished for the day.

We will be continuing our plants learning by looking at our previous investigation to describe the results. We will also begin a new investigation.

We will be learning what subtraction is, taking away practically and making subtraction number sentences.

We will be starting our topic ‘Cops and Robbers’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We will be writing lists of stolen objects, as well as making ‘Wanted’ posters for some of the robbers in the story.

We will be identifying alternative pronunciations of the following sounds:

‘g’- (as in girl and giant)

‘u’- (as in cup, unit or pull)

‘ow’- (as in cow and blow)

Tricky Words- water, where, who, again, thought, through, work, mouse

Mrs Found will be helping the children draw portrait style pictures for their ‘wanted’ posters.

We will be learning the Christian story of Creation.

We will begin our units of indoor athletics and using the large apparatus.

We will be starting to learn some of the songs from the upcoming Nativity.

A request

If you have any outgrown dressing up costumes I will gladly take some off your hands for our role play area and dressing up during choosing time. Anything is happily accepted!
