Intended Learning- Week Commencing 23.4.18

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 23rd April 2018

I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I was very impressed with the effort and energy that the children brought into their learning last week, they really are starting to seem like little Year 2s already! I’m sure they will continue to demonstrate this behaviour as they start Forest School this week, and bring the skills they learn there into the classroom.

We will continue to work on multiplication. We have practised counting up in 2s, 5s and 10s already, and will continue to practise doing so, as well as writing out multiplications and using these skills to figure out answers to word problems.

We will be continuing our work on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We worked really well on recounting and understanding the story last week, and will move on to writing out the story.

We will continue our unit ‘Changing Materials’ by investigating ice, and which materials can stop it from melting.

We will continue to practise the different ways to write down the ‘or’ phoneme (sound)- or, au, aw, al, our, augh, ough  and a- and practising spelling words with the ‘w’ sound.

For some children, I have sent home a pack of activities and resources to support you at home. Please do speak to me if you have any questions about these.

We will continue our unit ‘Your Imagination’ and will use instruments to complement our singing.

Mrs Found will be helping the children to use different materials to paint a ‘furry’ texture onto teddy pictures.

We will learn about Mezzuzahs by investigating the question ‘What does a Mezzuzah remind Jewish people about?’

The children will be practising Bat/Ball skills with Mrs Mileham, and participating in a variety of activities in our Outdoor Circuits unit.

We will be editing the recordings we made last week.

Storytelling Workshop

If you can believe it, looking at the recent weather, it was very snowy a month or so ago. On ‘The Snow Week’ we were due to have some storytelling workshops as part of World Book Day, which were cancelled. We are very lucky to have had them rescheduled for Thursday this week.

Warm Weather

A reminder that if it is warm and sunny, children should wear a sunhat and come in having applied sun cream before school. They are allowed to bring some in to re-apply at lunchtime, and the bottle should be named. I would strongly recommend a bottle of water as well. Thank you.

Forest School

As you know, Forest School is starting on this Tuesday. The groups are remaining the same as last year.  Hornbeam Group will be in the morning and Alder group in the afternoon until half term, when they will swap over.

For the morning sessions, the children will be transported in the school minibus to the wood in Ladham Road following registration, returning to school at approximately 12 noon. The children attending the afternoon sessions will have an early lunch and then will be taken to the wood at 12.30pm, returning by 3.15pm.

The weather is better at this time of year and the children will need appropriate clothing for the weather, but will always need the following for Forest School:

  •   A thin, long sleeved top
  •   Trousers (not jeans), which need to be tucked into socks or wellies)
  • Sunhat and sun screen (please apply sunscreen before bringing them to school)
  • Extra warmer layers if the weather is cold
  • Sturdy shoes/walking boots/wellies if it has been or is wet
  • A spare set of clothes including underwear (+bag to keep them in)
  • Waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat (lightweight if showers are predicted).

We have the medical forms from last year, but if your child’s needs have changed since then, then please collect a new form to update and return to us before Forest School starts.

The school website ‘Forest School’ Tab has a lot of information if you are unsure about anything, and as always I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
