Intended Learning- Week Commencing 21.05.18

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 21st May 2018

I hope you had a lovely weekend. Here is our intended learning for the last week of term 5! The children have worked really hard (again!) this term and I’m sure you will agree that they have earned their week’s break.

We will continue to work on time. We will be practising half past times, looking at an hour and half an hour later, and sequence times including am and pm times.

We will continue our work comparing Goudhurst and Machu Picchu in Peru. We will also be making posters about Peru/Spectacled Bears.

We will continue our Judaism topic by learning about Shabbat.

We will be revising different phonemes and their different spellings, and practise decoding both real and ‘alien’ words with this in. If you received a pack of Phonics activities before the Easter holidays it would be a gigantic help for you to maintain regular practise of these at home.

We will continue our unit ‘Your Imagination’ and will record our performance, which will include singing our own lyrics and accompanying the performance with instruments- keep an eye on the class blog!

The children will have a bat and ball lesson with Mrs Mileham, and will be continuing their tennis sample lessons.

The children will be making and icing teddy bear biscuits with Mrs Found on Thursday (unfortunately a bit too late for the picnic…) If you happen to have any biscuit cutters in the shape of a teddy bear I’m sure Mrs Found would very much appreciate being able to borrow them!

Teddy Bear's Picnic

A reminder that the Teddy Bear’s picnic will be this Wednesday afternoon. If you aren’t sure about the food I have requested you bring in (which I have tried to portion control!) please do speak to me or Mrs Found. The children are allowed to have a teddy in school on this day, and if you have a picnic blanket to lend on this day it would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if this is the case!

Trips/Events for next term

A letter was sent out on Friday detailing the visit from Mr Victrix and a trip to Drusillas Park linked to our ‘Voyagers’ topic. I am very excited about both of these learning opportunities for the children, and hopefully the children will be too!

Toys from home

Across the school, there have been a number of losses, breakages, disagreements and mishaps pertaining to toys brought in from home recently. To avoid upset, please can you ensure the children don’t bring anything they do not need for school. Thank you.

You will probably be aware that there have been a number of illnesses recently. I have worked with the class to remind them about washing hands and general hygiene, but I would suggest a chat with your child on a one-to-one basis to help the message sink in! Thank you for your support.

Special Day

This week I will be sending out a timetable for Special Day, which is re-starting next term. Please keep an eye out for the email and make note of the relevant date in your diary.
