Intended Learning- Week Commencing 19.2.18

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 19th February 2018

Welcome back! I hope you had a fantastic half term that was relaxing and fun, whether that was at home or on holiday, and enjoy the extra day out of school. It’s back to work on Tuesday though, and I am very excited about what is in store for this term. Here is what we are learning about this week:

We will be learning and practising numbers up to 40, completing sequences with these in, and representing these practically as tens and ones/units. We will also practise counting in tens to 100.

Our topic this term is called Jungle Explorers. We will be learning about different animals, with a focus on one particular animal which will be very apparent soon, but for the time being will remain a secret….

This week we will learn how to make words plural by adding –s or –es to the end of them, as well as practise writing questions. We will put the questions into a letter we are writing to a character from the book we will read this week!

We will be learning about the different ways to write down the ‘ow’  phoneme (sound): ow/ou, and revising words with the ‘ng’ sound.

Before the holidays I sent home a letter detailing sounds that your child needs support in using, so you can support them with their learning at home. As I said in the letter, I am happy to help with any phonics related enquiries that you may have.

Mrs Found will be helping the children with some decoupage decoration of jungle animals.

We will continue with Djembe drumming.

We will be learning about eating healthily.

We will begin our new unit of Gymnastics with Mrs Mileham, and practise ball skills in our other PE lesson. Please note we will be having PE on Tuesday this week so everyone must have their PE kits on the first day back.

Unfortunately, I will not be in on Wednesday this week as I am attending a funeral. Mrs Found and Miss Dargan will be in class, so if you need to get a message to me on this day, please leave it with them.

Marble Treat

You may or may not know that there is a ‘marble jar’ which has been gradually filling up over the course of the year for whole class good behaviour, effort and achievement. Once it is full, the class gets a special treat (decided upon by the children) as a reward! I am pleased to say that the jar was filled towards the end of last term and the children will be watching a film with some snacks on Thursday this week. They have certainly earnt it!
