Intended Learning- Week Commencing 16.10.17

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 16th October 2017

I hope you have had a lovely weekend. It’s almost hard to believe it’s near to the end of the first term already! Last week Mrs Found and I took some photos of the children for their Christmas card designs and we were discussing how much more grown up and year 1-like they are looking.

In this last week of term we will be assessing what the children have learnt so far alongside their usual learning. This will be in some fun activities in a quiet environment. I am aware that the children are very tired and we will be doing lots of exploration activities too! They will all have earnt a massive rest!

We will investigate how much plants need light to grow and review what we have learnt so far this term.

Alongside some maths assessments, we will be involved in a number of problem solving activities, both indoors and out.

Alongside some comprehension assessments we will write instructions on how to plant a seed and finish our work on Jack and the Beanstalk.

We will be identifying alternative pronunciations of the following sounds:

‘i’- (as in milk and mind)

‘o’- (as in pot and post)

‘c’- (as in cat and rice)

Tricky Words- little, one, do, when, what, out

We will continue our work on ‘Jonah and the Whale’ by answering some questions about what it teaches ‘What Christians think God is like’.

We will continue our practise of using different instruments to perform ‘Hey You!’

Mrs Found will be closing off our 'Garden of England' topic with some garden inspired art.

A request...

If you happen to know a police officer or a police community support officer who would be willing and able to come in and talk to the class at some point next term, please let me know! This is to support our 'Cops and Robbers' topic.

Very soon you will be fortunate enough to spend some more time with your child. If you have a moment (or several moments) over the half term week, it would be incredibly helpful if you could help your child practise tying ties and shoelaces, and doing and undoing shirt buttons- particularly those nefarious top buttons!

Also please ensure all parts of uniform are labelled. It really does make finding misplaced clothing a lot easier.

Maths Open Morning

On Wednesday we are having an open morning from 9:15- 10:15 so you can see how we teach maths. I hope you can join us! Please be aware that at the time of writing I’m intending for the class to be outside for this session (barring heavy rain) so if you plan on attending you may want to take this into consideration!
