I hope you had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed the extra time with your families. Hopefully the children are rested, refreshed and raring to go!
We will be starting our unit on multiplication. We will be practising adding repeatedly practically, and begin writing down the multiplication number sentences. We will also focus on learning the 2x, 5x and 10x tables.
This term our topic is ‘If you go down to the woods…’ which if you’re familiar with the children’s song, will tell you that the topic is all about Teddy Bear’s Picnics! More specifically, teddies and actual bears. This week, we will be hearing the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in preparation for rewriting it in a couple of weeks’ time. We will be practising reading skills such as inference and predictions through the week, and writing a diary entry from Goldilocks later in the week.
We will also be having a spelling bee using the lists that were sent home last term. It should be an excellent opportunity for everyone to have a go and put in their best efforts!
We will begin our unit ‘Changing Materials’ and continue to develop investigative skills.
We will continue to practise the different ways to write down the ‘air’ phoneme (sound), and practising spelling words with the ‘v’ sound.
We will start our unit ‘Your Imagination’ by learning a new song.
Mrs Found will be helping the children with some Teddy Bear art.
We will begin our unit on Judaism.
The children will be practising Bat/Ball skills with Mrs Mileham, and participating in a variety of activities in our Outdoor Circuits unit.
We will use recording software.
My Special Day
We will be taking a brief break from My Special Day this term. Not to worry, it will return in the last term!
As you will hopefully know, Year 1 are starting Forest School this term. I’m very much looking forward to experiencing it for myself for the first time, and I’m sure the children will enjoy being a bit less cold than last year! Please note that we aren’t starting until next week, and it will be on Tuesdays for Year 1.
Last Term's Work
I will be sending home the work that was displayed during the Tiger Who Came to Tea Party early this week. If possible, I’d like to send everything home on Monday. You may want to send a small bag in to help your child carry this home, though as it is mostly paper, book bags should be sufficient. If your child picked up some of their work at the end of the party (a highly chaotic and confusing time!) I’d appreciate it if you could help them double check the work they took is definitely theirs so anything brought home by mistake finds its way to the right owner! Thank you.
