Intended Learning- Week Commencing 02.10.17

Class 1 Elephants
For week beginning: 2nd October 2017

I hope you have had a lovely weekend. Thank you to those of you who asked about my First Aid Course. I was lucky to be one of two people attending so there was a lot of focused support- thankfully I passed! I was so pleased that the children were still very settled and were working hard when I came back on Friday. Now, as for the following week…

We will be looking at different seeds. We will identify different types and consider what happens when they are planted.

We will begin ‘Addition within 10’ this week. We will be learning different words for the ‘+’ sign, and learning to count on specific amounts  from 1 digit numbers. We will also learn to recognise and write our own number sentences when given amounts. By the way, number sentences are nothing unfamiliar, they are just an understandable way to refer to written calculations!

We will start a longer unit on Jack and the Beanstalk. This week, we will be using the skills we developed last week to recall and explain what has happened in the story, list characters, and begin to answer questions about what happened in the story.

We will be identifying the following Phase 5 sounds:

‘au’ (as in launch)

‘ey’ (as in key)

‘a_e’- a split vowel digraph (as in cake)

‘e_e’- a split vowel digraph (as in gene)

In addition we will be reviewing the sounds covered this year so far.

Tricky words- some, come, were, there

The children will be making ‘beanstalk art’

We will continue to develop gross  motor skills in this week’s Multiskills lesson, and team building activities in this week’s Outdoor Adventurous Activity lesson.

We will be using instruments as part of a performance of our ongoing unit ‘Hey You!’

We will be thinking about forgiveness, and the reasons Christians pray.
